This stun gun held up to 100% of its claims during our reliability and real-world tests. We ran into no problems and we are confident that you will find the same reliability as well. The TEK-12 has been on the stun gun market since spring 2013 and our test model is still functioning like new as of April 2023 with no issues.

Battery Life -

The battery on this stun gun couldn’t be better. All of ShockTEK Defense’s products use lithium ion batteries which allows the user to achieve maximum power along with maximum battery life. The battery life on the TEK-12 usually lasts us between 3-4 months per charge. This is the stun gun that we personally carry on us at all times since this is tied for the #1 spot of the best stun guns we’ve ever tested.

Warranty -

The standard warranty that ShockTEK Defense offers is a 90-Day FULL no-questions asked warranty. However, we have heard from some of our visitors telling us that ShockTEK has made exceptions beyond the warranty date depending on the scenario. Our personal experience with ShockTEK Defense has been nothing short of exceptional.

Case/Holster -

The TEK-12 comes with a nylon holster that gets the job done with no issues. It is easy to put the stun gun in/out of the carrying holster without any issues. We have no complaints on the holster and has held up fine in the past 3 years of ownership.

Full Charge Time -

As per the included instructions that are included with the TEK-12 package it says this exactly (in quotes below):

“Once per every 2 months, charge your TEK-12 for 2 hours. This will keep the battery at full charge. If you use your flashlight often, charge your TEK-12 for 2 hours once every month. DO NOT overcharge beyond 2 hours as this can cause shortened battery life. The TEK-12 can hold a charge for over a year, but to be safe and maintain battery longevity we recommend the above charging methods. If you live in a colder climate, charge the unit for 2 hours once per month”
Even though we never experienced any low battery signals from charging our unit once every 3-4 months, it’s probably a good idea to follow by the manufacturers instructions. The battery life is excellent on any of the ShockTEK products that we have used.

Flashlight Brightness -

We are unsure on the exact lumen output, but we can assure you that the flashlight is EXTREMELY bright and gets the job done. In future tests we will include a lumen meter picture that shows the exact lumen output.
The TEK-12 definitely had the brightest flashlight output of any stun gun we’ve ever tested. You will not be disappointed, it gets the job done!

Overall Quality -

Every ShockTEK Defense product that we ever tested is made from the highest quality components. The overall quality seems to feel on par with flashlight stun guns that are priced between $300-$600. The quality is definitely there and you WILL notice/feel the difference.

Overall Value -

We can’t say enough positive things about the TEK-12. From all of its high quality features, to the warranty and the customer support that you receive when dealing with ShockTEK, you will not be let down. We always receive emails from happy customers of ShockTEK because of the way they treat their customers even after the sale has been made. In a market full of chinese products, with ShockTEK Defense being the exception, you simply cannot go wrong. This is why we will continue to say positive things about their brand. If they ever decide to let any customers down or decide to change their business practices, you can be rest-assured I PERSONALLY will be the first one to let everyone know. However, with the solid reputation that they have built, we don’t see anything bad happening anytime soon. ShockTEK was originally a dealer only company that distributed their products through other vendors but it seems they are moving their business to sell their products directly online as well. We feel that the overall value of this stun gun is beyond anything under $300 without a doubt. Keep in mind this is the personal stun gun that we have used for years now. Even though their TEK-8 is a great stun gun, we personally feel that the TEK-12 is the ultimate choice when looking for a stun gun.

Conclusion -

The TEK-12 is a solid product that will last for years without any issues. You simply cannot go wrong with the power output, flashlight brightness and overall battery life. In the past 3 years of ownership, this stun gun has never let us down and continues to function beyond what the manufacturer claims. The TEK-8 is rated as the #1 best stun gun on our site due to the overall price/value ratio. If you can afford the additional ~$30 for the TEK-12, we say go for the TEK-12 instead, you will not be disappointed.

Description –

The Vipertek VTS-195 has been on the market since 2016 and it is still one of the most popular flashlight stun guns today. According to Vipertek they claim that the unit is made out of an Aircraft Grade Aluminum Alloy Construction. According to our analysis we can tell that the body is constructed of aluminum. There are many metal bodied stun guns on the market today but if they are not made of aluminum or plastic we recommend staying away from them. Most people would rather not have to lug around a heavy stun gun. Just because a stun gun is heavy does not mean it is more effective. The VTS-195 is a solid and sturdy aluminum constructed unit that is very well built for the low price that these are available for.

Overall Quality –

The overall quality of this stun gun is excellent. On metal body stun guns we do a scratch test to determine what parts are metal and which are plastic. Without doing a scratch test it is sometimes hard to determine which parts are plastic or metal. Here are the results of the scratch test from top to bottom on the stun gun:

- Top Bezel surrounding the electrical arc area: Black Plastic
- From the top bezel to the base of the unit: Anodized Black Aluminum
- Flashlight and Stun Gun buttons: Black Plastic
- Underneath the base of the unit where the charging port area is: Black Plastic
- On/Off main switch at the bottom of the unit: Black Plastic

Wrist Strap Strength: The wrist strap is more important than you would initially think. The wrist strap on the VTS-195 is non adjustable but it is of a perfect size of not being too small and not fitting your hand or being too big and then falling off your wrist. We also do a pull test to ensure that the strap is strong enough to withstand a potential attacker trying to grab and break the strap out of your hand. The wrist strap on the VTS-195 does not look very strong however it did pass our test and is very strong. An attacker would not be able to pull hard enough to break the strap.

Charging Port and Cable: The charging cable is a simple 2 pin design with an indentation on the cable that goes into the bottom of the stun gun unit so you cannot accidentally plug in the unit the wrong way. The charging cord itself is one of the thinnest we have seen. It probably doesn’t make a difference but the cord is thinner than other charging cords for other stun gun models. The charging cord fits in the bottom of the unit VERY loosely and will fall out or slide out with little to no resistance. The charging cable is 10 inches in total length from the 2 prongs that go into your 110v socket to the other end of the cable. We measured the total length of the actual cable without the two connectors on each end at 6.5 inches. When charging your VTS-195 we highly recommend putting something underneath the unit to support it so it is close enough to the electrical socket. If it is not supported, the charging cable will easily fall out and lose its connection. Overall we believe the charging cable itself and the charging cable fitting so loosely inside of the port are the weakest part of the design of the VTS-195 model.

Claimed Voltage –

At the time of purchasing and reviewing this product the claimed voltage is 59 billion volts. We do not get into voltage claims here at stun gun buyer’s guide. Many of the stun gun manufacturers and their resellers use wild claims to market their products. From test firing this unit alone we can tell that the unit has more than enough voltage to defend yourself.

Reliability –

Since the VTS-195 has been on the market for so long we have had the ability to test the reliability of the unit. This unit we have had now for over 5 years and it is still functioning and working properly. All of the functions work as expected and the battery still holds a charge for at least a month. We recommend that if your stun gun cannot hold a charge for at least a month you should replace it with a new one. You would not want to be in a situation where you need to use it and the battery is dead. The VTS-195 has been a solid and reliable unit.

Battery Life –

As we have mentioned above, our VTS-195 unit is still holding a charge after 5+ years. Our VTS-195 stun gun has held a charge for months while still being 100% functional which is excellent and something we look for when testing each and every stun gun we review. Even though our VTS-195 held a charge for several months we always recommend charging your stun gun once a month to be sure it is always ready to work when you need it most. According to the VTS-195 operating manual it recommends that you charge your unit for 1-2 hours every month to ensure that it is fully charged. We agree with the manufacturer on this charging procedure.

By charging your stun gun once a month it ensures that your stun gun is always fully charged and ready in the event that you ever have to use it. We recommend that you test all of the functions of the stun gun prior to charging to ensure that all of the features work 100%. In the event that one or more of the features no longer work, we recommend replacing the unit as it is not worth the risk of carrying around a unit that may not function when you need it. We also recommend that every stun gun should be charged at least once per month regardless of the manufacturers instructions. Also, for the Vipertek VTS-195 unit there is a lifetime warranty so you might as well contact the manufacturer and get your unit replaced if there is some sort of issue.

According to the Vipertek VTS-195 operating manual that is included with your stun gun there are specific charging instructions. The Vipertek VTS-195 charging instructions are quoted from the operating manual as follows:

“Connect the power cord to the bottom of the stun gun and plug the other end into a standard 110v AC electrical outlet. Charging time is about 10 to 12 hours. Do not overcharge the battery as this will shorten the battery’s life span. After this initial charge, you will only need to charge the stun gun for 1 to 2 hours every month to ensure that your stun gun is fully charged.”

Warranty –

At the time of purchasing and reviewing this product Vipertek claims that there is a lifetime warranty for the VTS-195 model. From contacting Vipertek many times for questions and/or warranty issues we have never seen a problem with Vipertek living up to these claims. The lifetime warranty can be seen online when purchasing the product but Vipertek does not include anything about the warranty within the packaging that you receive with your product. In our opinion this is something that Vipertek could improve on and they should include this within the product packaging.

Vipertek does include a card inside of the box for the VTS-195 that includes their email address to contact them to ensure you are happy with the product which is something nice that shows they are there to help you.

Case / Holster –

The holster for the VTS-195 is not perfect, it seems to be on the cheaper side. It is made of a very thin nylon material with a single loop for your belt to pass through. One interesting thing to note about the holster is that on the inside it has a rubberized material to help the stun gun from sliding around. Most stun gun holsters just have the same nylon material on the inside as the outside without the rubberized material.

Full Charge Time –

As per the operating manual the initial full charge time is 10 to 12 hours, then 1-2 hours monthly to keep it fully charged. This is an excellent charge time in our opinion.

Flashlight Brightness and Beam –

We have seen brighter flashlights from other stun gun models. Although in our ratings table below we gave this a 4/5 stars for flashlight brightness. The color of the flashlight is approximately 8,000K which is a cool white/light blue color. This VTS-195′s flashlight is more of a long range focused beam rather than a wide beam. The VTS-195 features a single LED.

Overall Value –

While the VTS-195 is not perfect we do believe it is a great value for the price you are paying. To be able to purchase an aluminum body flashlight stun gun for less than $25 with a lifetime warranty is truly amazing in our opinion. We have read other reviews on build quality issues and other problems that seemed to randomly pop up from customer to customer but for the price you are paying and what you are receiving this is a great value.

Conclusion –

The Vipertek VTS-195 is an excellent stun gun for the price. While having an aluminum body stun gun is not necessary we feel that is really the main feature of the VTS-195 model. If having an aluminum body on your stun gun is important to you, then the VTS-195 is the best aluminum body stun gun we have tested. If you are looking for the lightest possible stun gun, you should stick with a plastic body stun gun. At Stun Gun Buyer’s Guide we like high quality materials on our products just like everyone else, but we personally prefer plastic body stun guns due to less weight. A stun gun is not a product you keep around for 20 years, it is something that is made to last a few years, discard it when the battery is dead or the unit stops functioning and buy the next one. The VTS-195 is overall an excellent product and especially for the price.

The Vipertek VTS-880 was one of the very first Vipertek models that we encountered in the stun gun market. This has always been an inexpensive stun gun. While the design of this model seems to be used by other manufacturers, the internal parts are not identical. The quality of the VTS-880 is exceptional compared to its rivals. While other manufacturers sell products that look and appear similar, they are not built with the same quality standards.

Claimed Voltage –

We have seen the claimed voltage vary over the years from just 5,000,000 Volts to 50,000,000 Volts. It is important to understand that the varying voltage is due to distributors also coming up with these claims. Do we believe that this unit has 5,000,000+ Volts? Absolutely not, because most stun gun models have between 15,000 – 40,000 volts. Regardless of the wild claims, this stun gun will put someone down immediately without hesitation.

Reliability –

The VTS-880 is one of the most reliable stun guns we’ve ever tested. We actually have a model of this stun gun from 2012 (now 2016 as of writing this updated review) which still holds a charge today. We have another VTS-880 that the flashlight has recently gone out on, but that seems to be the weakest link is the LED flashlight. While the flashlight worked flawlessly for 3 years, we think that is great since a flashlight on a stun gun should be considered a secondary feature. Our VTS-880 has also been known to hold a single charge for months at the time. We recommend charging it at least once a month just like the manufacturer recommends just to ensure that your stun gun will fire when you need it most. We have never experienced a single VTS-880 stun gun that will no longer fire even after years of use. It is an exceptionally reliable product overall.

Battery Life –

As we mentioned above, we have a VTS-880 that is still 100% functional as of 4 years at the time of writing this updated review. To have the battery last as long as 4 years on a product which retails for less than $20 gets an A+ in our book. While our VTS-880 has held a charge for months on a single charge, we recommend charging yours at least once per month.

Charging your unit once per month ensures that the battery will be maintained properly and will have power when you’re ready to use it. We recommend that every long battery life stun gun be charged at least once a month regardless of the manufacturers instructions.

Per the manufacturer’s instructions for the Vipertek VTS-880, it states than the first time you charge the stun gun (initial charge) should be for 6-8 hours. It also mentions not to overcharge the battery or it will shorten the battery life. It further mentions that once a month you should charge the unit for 1 to 2 hours to keep the stun gun fully charged and ready to go.

Warranty –

According to our research from what have seen online at multiple sources, the Vipertek VTS-880 has a lifetime warranty. We also did have a few questions for Vipertek and also asked for a replacement set of instructions and they answered our questions within 24 hours and mailed a replacement set of instructions at no charge to us. From us contacting them twice, they have been quick to reply and provide quality customer support.

Case / Holster –

The holster for the VTS-880 is a high quality holster for the price. While we did have one holster that wasn’t perfect, i’m sure they would replace it if we complained about the quality. The only thing to note regarding the holster is that it holds the stun gun very firmly. While this is a good thing, you should be careful when putting the stun gun in/out of the holster that you do not accidentally shock yourself. There is also a belt loop on the holster to pass your belt through.

Full Charge Time –

As per the manufacturer’s instructions you should charge your VTS-880 for 6-8 hours on the initial charge and then charge for 1 to 2 hours per month to keep the unit fully charged.

Flashlight Brightness –

This is our biggest complaint about this model. The VTS-880 has a single white LED and it doesn’t pack enough power to light things up like you would expect. However, you have to keep 2 things in mind regarding this. First, a flashlight is a secondary feature on a stun gun. Lastly, this product costs $20 or less, you cannot expect for a unit that was designed as a compact unit to perform like a more expensive flashlight stun gun with multiple LED’s.

Overall Quality –

The quality of this stun gun is not necessarily in its external parts, but it’s more about its internal parts, which make it as reliable as it is. It does have a nice rubberized texture so it will not slip out of your hand easily and the holster is high quality for the price.

Overall Value –

We measure the value of anything based on its quality and features based on a specific price point. The Vipertek VTS-880 ticks all the right boxes when comparing quality and features to its price. As long as this product remains under the price point of less than $50, we definitely see the value.

Conclusion –

The Vipertek VTS-880 has surpassed our expectations in many different ways. We have several 4 year old VTS-880’s that perform flawlessly without any issues at all. The holsters are still holding together, the flashlights still work, the unit still holds a charge and most importantly the stun gun continues to fire without hesitation. If you are looking for a quality stun gun for $20 or less, you’ll be pleasantly surprised with just how cool this little stun gun is.

• There are many court cases where a gun owner can face serious legal troubles if the proper procedure/laws were not followed. Even if the gun owner was the victim of a crime initially, if you have no proof, you can be facing serious legal charges. Remember also specific scenarios such as if you’re a young guy that shoots a middle aged man that broke into your home, the judge is not going to be easy on you. Also keep in mind that race plays a huge role with guns. Imagine that you’re black and you shoot a white guy, the court is going to question your case more and more just because that’s what they do, unless you have SOLID evidence that they cannot question. Even though discrimination is not fair or legal, we must face the facts here, PLAY IT SAFE and leave your gun at home where there are less chances or having a crime backfire on you. If you’re a younger person, theres no need for a gun, unless you’re hanging out with people that own guns or criminals(that’s the risk you take). Our best word of advice is don’t carry a gun on you outside of your home if you don’t have the money to hire a GREAT lawyer to back up your defense. If you don’t have the money to deal with a serious court case, LEAVE YOUR GUN AT HOME! Trust us on this one, YOU do not want to be faced with a nonsense jail sentence and YOU were the victim of the crime. No matter your race, age or size a gun might save your life, but it may not save you from legal problems. Be careful and be smart, know the laws in and out!
• A gun can kill and seriously injure someone. You need to be careful as you hold that persons life in YOUR hands. When you’re a gun owner you need to have a CLEAR mind. A stun gun might end up getting you into a black eye or two in the end since it will come to hand on hand combat, but at least you didn’t permanently injure or kill that person. You will also look like the good guy if the cops get involved regardless of your age or race which helps you stay out of court.
• Cost of ammunition – We know it’s not that expensive but it does cost something.

Conclusion

If you’ve made it this far, you might think we have a bias towards stun guns and the answer is NO, we do not have a bias towards stun guns. If someone breaks into your home, and you’re standing there with your stun gun, you might have just brought your stun gun to a gun fight. Regardless a stun gun won’t do much for you at home. This is why a gun will always be the top home self defense weapon of choice. In fact, we don’t recommend buying a stun gun for protection at home, you would probably be better off with a kitchen knife instead! The reason we spent time writing this article is to outline the responsibility and self-control that is necessary when owning a gun. We also FIRMLY believe that there is a time and a place for guns and for stun guns.

Guns – The BEST home self-defense that you can buy, PERIOD. Also, the best self defense weapon anywhere you go, but was it the best if you are faced with HUGE legal problems?

Stun Guns/Tasers – The BEST form of overall self defense you can buy for the car or for being alone in person. Imagine that you’re taking your dog for walk at dark, is it really necessary to carry a gun on you? This is why we believe in both stun guns/tasers and guns depending on the situation. There is NOT a one size fits all solution in our opinion.

Difference between a stun gun and a taser

Some people think that a stun gun and taser is the same thing or they will refer to a stun gun as a taser. This simple mistake is HUGELY incorrect. It is important to note the difference as there are specific laws set forth that pertain to either stun guns or tasers. First we will start with what a stun gun is and then explain tasers. A stun gun is an electrical device that has probes or prongs attached to the device. When the stun gun safety is in place after depressing the button, you will see an electrical shock that arcs to connect the probes. Sometimes stun guns will also have more than 2 probes and they will have 4 or more. Generally 2 of the probes will have an arc of electricity between them and the other 2 probes you will not see the electrical arc but they will have electric current running through them, usually even the same amount of voltage as the 2 probes that have the electrical arc. The only reason the other probes will not show an electrical arc is because of the distance between them is larger. This greater distance would require more electrical current for an arc to be seen by your eye. Another important thing to note is that a stun gun will not shoot any electrical projectile when activated.

A taser is an electrical device that shoots an electrically charged projectile at the target. Depending on the model of taser you choose, there will be either 1 or several projectiles that shoot toward the target. You can think of a taser as a mini electrical spear gun. The tips of the projectiles look like a small spear so they can penetrate clothing. Even if the projectile does not make contact with the skin of the attacker, the electrical shock will still be functional within usually a 2 inch area on civilian stun guns and 2 inches+ on law enforcement issued tasers.  The differences between civilian and law enforcement style tasers is that the law enforcement issued tasers will be more powerful, have more projectiles, have further range and also shoot at a higher rate of speed. However, as a civilian you cannot legally own the higher end taser models without the proper training. Some security officers/guards can also carry the higher end law enforcement models but they will need to pass a training class and will only be allowed to use the device when on the job. It is also important to note that some tasers also feature a stun gun just in case the attacker comes running at you as he’s been tasered.

So in short here are the differences:

Stun Gun – Has electrically charged probes that you must make contact with the attacker.
Taser – Shoots an electrically charged projectile(s) at the attacker within a specific range.  Range is usually 15-30 feet at most.

• If you fire your stun gun in the presence of an attacker, the attacker might re-consider leaving the situation, ending in no confrontation at all. (some tasers have a stun gun feature, some don’t)

• Minimal training required such as watching instructional DVD’s and practicing using a target (remember each time you fire a cartridge it will cost $25-$50 each, so the minimal practicing can get costly)
• Registration is required for tasers. You will be required to register with your personal information before the device is activated. You will also need to have a clean record as a background check will be performed on you prior to activation.
• Background check is required when registering your device
• Most tasers do not have a rechargeable battery. When this battery dies you’ll need to contact the company for assistance or replacement of the device. (some manufacturers of tasers do have rechargeable batteries)
• Most tasers are larger/heavier and harder to conceal. You/your wife don’t want to always have to carry a heavy taser around.
• Most tasers has less voltage than a stun gun
• Some tasers have a stun gun built in as well which is what you want when buying a taser/stun gun unit. However, some tasers do not have a stun gun built in, so if you miss your target, you better run FAST and defenseless. If you have a taser without a stun gun built in, and you miss your target, you would have been better off with a stun gun.
• More expensive because of replacement cartridges.
• Most civilian taser models shoot out hundreds of tiny confetti pieces onto the attacker with your taser serial number on the confetti pieces. This is used in the event of a police investigation so that they can trace the event back to you. Also some tasers also immediately alert police when used and your location is sent to the police. So if you own a taser, you can plan on having to deal with the police or a police report. Sometimes this can lead up to your arrest depending on the events that took place or how you handle yourself during the situation at hand.

Conclusion

As you can easily see, a taser has many more cons than a stun gun. This is why we are firm believers in stun guns rather than tasers. The only downside is that it’s hard to find a quality stun gun. When on the other hand, it’s almost impossible to find a low-quality taser. At the end of the day, we always recommend buying a stun gun over a taser for the obvious reasons. If money is not a problem for you, we recommend that you buy a stun gun and a taser and use them according to your situation. If you’re at home, a gun(not stun gun) is always the way to go. If you’re on the street or in a car, then a stun gun is just as useful as a taser. If you’re indoors, then a stun gun is more appropriate.

Below we have separated stun gun laws into 4 different main categories. These categories are: prohibited states/cities/counties, frequently asked questions, traveling with stun guns and state statutes for ALL states. Please make sure to read each section carefully as it is important to understand as many laws as you possibly can regarding stun guns.

** NOTICE ** – Even if your state is on the prohibited list, it doesn’t necessary mean that you can’t own a stun gun within a particular state. Stun gun retailers and manufacturers cannot ship to prohibited states, but we have found that nearly 100% of self defense product retailers are willing to ship to you if you can provide an alternate address. Most retailers are willing to ship your order to a friend or family member at an alternate address and then your friend/family can relay the package to you.

Prohibited States/Counties/Cities for Stun Guns

The following STATES may have requirements to own or possess a stun gun:

• Illinois – LEGAL but Firearm Owner’s Identification Card Required.

• Michigan – LEGAL but has many requirements. Read complete michigan stun gun laws below.
• Mississippi – LEGAL but must be licensed to carry a stun gun.

Frequently Asked Stun Gun Questions

Q: Are stun guns legal to own?
A: YES, this is has been a common misunderstanding for many years. It is 100% legal to own a stun gun for civilian self defense as long as you’re not a minor, no felony record and intend to use it ONLY for self defense.

Q: For it to be legal to carry a stun gun, does it have to be concealed?
A: This will all depend on your state/city/county that you live in. Since there are so many different laws for different states, we recommend that you contact your local law enforcement office for any details that they can offer on the topic. For MOST states, the stun gun does not have to be concealed.

Q: Am I allowed to keep a stun gun in my car or purse?
A: Different regions have different regulations and laws. For almost all states, this is perfectly legal and not a problem. If you want the most precise answer for the city that you live in, we recommend contacting your local law enforcement office for details. 99% of the time we have found that it’s perfectly legal to keep a  stun gun in your car or purse as long as stun guns are legal in your state.

Traveling with a stun gun

This will depend on where you are going and how you plan to carry the stun gun. According to the Transportation Security Administration, stun guns and personal self-defense sprays are allowed to be in checked baggage with restrictions. It is important to understand that while it may be 100% legal to own and possess a stun gun within your state, it may not be legal to possess in a state you are driving to, even if it is concealed. Before traveling you should check the laws for each state even if you are just passing through one state to get to another.

Arizona Stun Gun & Taser Laws / Statutes:

Section 13-3117 Remote Stun Guns; Sales Records; Use; Classification; Definitions

A. It is unlawful for a person or entity to do any of the following:

1. Sell an authorized remote stun gun without keeping an accurate sales record as to the identity of the purchaser with the  manufacturer of the authorized remote stun gun. The identification that is required by this paragraph shall be verified with a government issued identification. This requirement does not apply to secondary sales.

2. Knowingly use or threaten to use a remote stun gun or an authorized remote stun gun against a law enforcement officer who is engaged in the performance of the officer’s official duties.

B. This section does not:

1. Preclude the prosecution of any person for the use of a remote stun gun or an authorized remote stun gun during the commission of any criminal offense.

2. Preclude any justification defense under chapter 4 of this title.

C. The regulation of remote stun guns and authorized remote stun guns is a matter of statewide concern.

D. A violation of:

1. Subsection A, paragraph 1 is a petty offense.

2. Subsection A, paragraph 2 is a class 4 felony.

E. For the purposes of this section:

1.”Authorized remote stun gun” means a remote stun gun that has all of the following:

(a) An electrical discharge that is less than one hundred thousand volts and less than nine joules of energy per pulse.

(b) A serial or identification number on all projectiles that are discharged from the remote stun gun.

(c) An identification and tracking system that, on deployment of remote electrodes, disperses coded material that is traceable to the purchaser through records that are kept by the manufacturer on all remote stun guns and all individual cartridges sold.

(d) A training program that is offered by the manufacturer.

2. “Remote stun gun” means an electronic device that emits an electrical charge and that is designed and primarily employed to incapacitate a person or animal either through contact with electrodes on the device itself or remotely through wired probes that are attached to the device or through a spark, plasma, ionization or other conductive means emitting from the device.

Arkansas Stun Gun & Taser Laws / Statutes:

Stun guns and TASERS are not permitted on the property of any state universities.

Delaware Stun Gun & Taser Laws / Statutes:

New Castle County, DE – Section 22.03.009. Stun Guns and Taser Guns.

A. It shall be unlawful for any person to manufacture, make, deliver, transport, trade, give, sell, purchase or possess a stun gun or taser gun.

B. The term “stun gun,” as used in this Section, means any battery powered, pulsed electrical device of high voltage and low or no amperage which, when pressed against a person, can disrupt the central nervous system and cause temporary loss of voluntary muscle control of such person.

C. The term “taser gun,” as used in this section, means any device contained in a package which permits it to be hand held, containing an electrical supply unit, and into which an expendable plastic cassette may be inserted and which operates by shooting or projecting a ball, net or dart carrying fine wires from the package to the target and which, upon hitting a person, can send out current capable of disrupting the person’s nervous      system in such a manner as to render the person incapable of functioning normally.

D. Exempt from this section shall be any law enforcement officer while performing his or her lawful duties within this County and those selling to any law enforcement officer while performing his or her lawful duties within this county.

E. A conviction of violation of this Section shall be punishable as provided in Section 1.01.009 of this Code. (Ord. No. 98-050, § 1(22-69), 5-26-1998)

Wilmington, DE Specific Statutes – Section 36-161. Stun Guns, etc.

A. It shall be unlawful for any person to manufacture, make, deliver, transport, trade, give, sell, or possess a converted tear gas gun, stun gun or taser gun.

B. The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this section, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this subsection, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

1. Stun gun means any battery powered, pulsed electrical device of high voltage and low or no amperage which, when pressed against a person, can disrupt the central nervous system and cause temporary loss of voluntary muscle control of such person.

2. Taser gun means any device contained in a package which permits it to be handheld, containing an electrical supply unit, and into which an expendable plastic cassette may be inserted and which operates by shooting or projecting a ball, net, or dart carrying fine wires from the package to the target and which, upon hitting a person can send out current capable of disrupting the person’s nervous system in such a manner as to render the person incapable of functioning normally.

3. Any law enforcement officer while performing his lawful duties within the city shall be exempted from the effect of this section. For purposes of this section, the term “law enforcement officer” shall include police officers, the attorney general, the attorney general’s deputies and investigators, the sheriff, and the sheriff’s deputies, prison guards, constables and bailiffs.

4. A conviction of violation of this section shall be punishable by a fine of not less than $500.00 and not more than $2,500.00 or by both such fine and imprisonment not exceeding six months. The minimum sentence of $500.00 fine shall not be subject to suspension or reduction for any reason.

Newark, DE – Section 31-5. Stun Guns and Taser Guns.

A. It shall be unlawful for any person within the limits of the city to possess, wear, carry or knowingly transport a stun gun or taser gun.

B. The term “stun gun,” as used in this section, means any battery powered, pulsed electrical device of high voltage and low or no amperage which, when pressed against a person, can disrupt the central nervous system and cause temporary loss of voluntary muscle control of such person.

C. The term “taser gun,” as used in this section, means any device contained in a package, which permits it to be hand held, containing an electrical supply unit, and into which an expendable plastic cassette may be inserted and which operates by shooting or projecting a ball, net or dart carrying fine wires from the package to the target and which, upon hitting a person, can send out current capable of disrupting the person’s nervous system in such a manner as to render the person incapable of functioning normally.

D. This section shall not apply to any law enforcement officer while performing his or her lawful duties within the city.

E. This section shall not apply to any person who possesses, wears,  carries or transports a stun gun or taser gun on real estate that the person owns or leases or where the person resides or within the confines of a business establishment that the person owns or leases.

District of Columbia Stun Gun & Taser Laws / Statutes:

Stun guns are now legal. Below from the DC Metro Police:

A person 18 years or older may possess a stun gun in the District of Columbia; it may only be used to protect themselves or their property. No one other than a law enforcement officer is allowed to possess a stun gun in a building or office occupied by the District of Columbia government, a penal institution, secure juvenile residential facility, a halfway house, any building that is occupied by a children’s facility, preschool, elementary or secondary school, any building or grounds in which the owner or occupant clearly posts forbidding the carrying of a stun gun.

Title 7 Subtitle J Chpt. 25 7-2502.215.
Possession of stun guns.

(a) No person under 18 years of age shall possess a stun gun in the District; provided, that brief possession for self-defense in response to an immediate threat of harm shall not be a violation of this subsection.

(b) No person who possesses a stun gun shall use that weapon except in the exercise of reasonable force in defense of person or property.

(c) Unless permission specific to the individual and occasion is given, no person, except a law
enforcement officer as defined in section 901, shall possess a stun gun in the following locations:

(1) A building or office occupied by the District of Columbia government, its agencies, or instrumentalities;

(2) A penal institution, secure juvenile residential facility, or halfway house;

(3) A building or portion thereof, occupied by a children’s facility, preschool, or public or private elementary or secondary school; or

(4) Any building or grounds clearly posted by the owner or occupant to prohibit the carrying of a stun gun.

Florida Stun Gun & Taser Laws / Statutes:

Stun Guns/Electric Weapons: Section 790.001 (4)(b)

Definitions. A nonlethal stun gun or dart-firing stun gun or other nonlethal electric weapon or device that is designed solely for defensive purposes. (Note: Non Lethal is the word that makes this law)

790.53 Open Carrying of Weapons

A person may openly carry, for purposes of lawful self-defense:

A nonlethal stun gun or dart-firing stun gun or other nonlethal electric weapon or device that is designed solely for defensive purposes.

Concealed Carry on any college or university facility unless the licensee is a registered student, employee, or faculty member of such college or university and the weapon is a stun gun or non-lethal electric weapon or device designed solely for defensive purposes and the weapon does not fire a dart or projectile.

Georgia Stun Gun & Taser Laws / Statutes:

Section 16-11-127.1 (b)(1)

It shall be unlawful for any person to carry to or to possess or have under such person’s control while within a school safety zone, at a school function, or on a bus or other transportation furnished by a school any weapon or explosive compound, other than fireworks or consumer fireworks the possession of which is regulated by Chapter 10 of Title 25…

Section 16-11-127.1

Carrying weapons within school safety zones, at school functions, or on a bus or other transportation furnished by a school

(C) (19) Any person who is 18 years of age or older or currently enrolled in classes on the campus in question and carrying, possessing, or having under such person’s control an electroshock weapon while in or on any building or real property owned by or leased to such public technical school, vocational school, college or university or other public institution of postsecondary education; provided, however, that, if such person makes use of such electroshock weapon, such use shall be in defense of self or others. The exemption under this paragraph shall apply only to such person in regard to such electroshock weapon. As used in this paragraph, the term ‘electroshock weapon’ means any commercially available device that is powered by electrical charging units and designed exclusively to be capable of incapacitating a person by electrical charge, including, but not limited to, a stun gun or taser as defined in subsection (a) of Code Section 16-11-106;

Illinois Stun Gun & Taser Laws / Statutes:

430ILCS 65/2 Sec. 2.Firearm Owner’s Identification Card Required; Exceptions.

(a) (1) No person may acquire or possess any firearm, stun gun, or taser within this State without having in his or her possession a Firearm Owner’s Identification Card previously issued in his or her name by the Department of State Police under the provisions of this Act. (Electric weapons can only be carried ready for use in your home or place of business. In all other places including automobiles they must be secured and not ready for use even if you have a permit to carry a firearm.)

(d) No person shall carry or posses with intent to use unlawfully against another, or carry in a threatening or menacing manner, without authority of law, a dagger, billy, dangerous knife, razor, broken bottle or other piece or glass, stun gun, taser, or other dangerous or deadly weapon of like character.

Indiana Stun Gun & Taser Laws / Statutes:

IC 35-47-8-1

“Electronic Stun Weapon” Defined

Sec. 1. As used in this chapter, “electronic stun weapon” means any mechanism that is:

1. Designed to emit an electronic, magnetic, or other type of charge that exceeds the equivalency of a five (5) milliamp sixty (60) hertz    shock; an

2. Used for the purpose of temporarily incapacitating a person. Added by P.L.318-1985, Section 3. IC 35-47-8-2

“Stun Gun” Defined

Sec. 2. As used in this chapter, “stun gun” means any mechanism that is:

1. Designed to emit an electronic, magnetic, or other type of charge that equals or does not exceed the equivalency of a five (5) milliamp sixty (60) hertz shock;

2. Used for the purpose of temporarily incapacitating a person.

“Taser” Defined

Sec. 3. As used in this chapter, “taser” means any mechanism that is:

Iowa Stun Gun & Taser Laws / Statutes:

Title XVI
Chapter 702
702.7 Dangerous weapon.

A “dangerous weapon” is any instrument or device designed primarily for use in inflicting death or injury upon a human being or animal, and which is capable of inflicting death upon a human being when used in the manner for which it was designed, except a bow and arrow when possessed and used for hunting or any other lawful purpose. Additionally, any instrument or device of any sort whatsoever which is actually used in such a manner as to indicate that the defendant intends to inflict death or serious injury upon the other, and which, when so used, is capable of inflicting death upon a human being, is a dangerous weapon. Dangerous weapons include but are not limited to any offensive weapon, pistol, revolver, or other firearm, dagger, razor, stiletto, switchblade knife, knife having a blade exceeding five inches in length, or any portable device or weapon directing an electric current, impulse, wave, or beam that produces a high-voltage pulse designed to immobilize a person.

Note: Since an electric defensive device is considered a Dangerous Weapon it would take a permit/license to carry a firearm to carry such device on your person.

Maine Stun Gun & Taser Laws / Statutes:

Admin. Rule 16: 633-16 Weapons

The following rules govern possession of weapons in a licensed slot machine facility. “Weapons” include but are not limited to any firearm, taser, stun gun, sling shot, knuckles, bowie knife, dirk, stiletto or other dangerous or deadly weapon usually employed in the attack on or defense of a person.

Section 1004. Criminal use of Electronic Weapon

A. Except as provided in subsection 4, a person is guilty of criminal use of an electronic weapon if the person intentionally, knowingly or recklessly uses an electronic weapon upon any other person.

B. As used in this section, “electronic weapon” means a portable device or weapon from which an electrical current, impulse, wave or beam may be directed, which current, impulse, wave or beam is designed to have a disabling effect upon human beings.

C. Criminal use of an electronic weapon is a Class D crime.

D. This section does not apply to the use of an electronic weapon by:

1. A law enforcement officer, corrections officer or corrections supervisor engaged in the performance of the law enforcement officer’s, corrections officer’s or corrections supervisor’s public duty if the officer’s or corrections supervisor’s appointing authority has authorized such use of an electronic weapon; or

2. A person using an electronic weapon when that use is for the purpose of:

a. Defending that person or a 3rd person as authorized under section 108, subsection 2; or

b. Defending that person’s dwelling place as authorized under section 104, subsections 3 and 4.

Note: Above laws cover the criminal use of these weapons. Self Defense use of these weapons is permitted by Law.

Maryland Stun Gun & Taser Laws / Statutes:

Stun Devices Illegal in the following Cities/Counties in MD.

Baltimore, MD – City Code 115
Ocean City, MD -Sec. 58-162

An electronic control device may not be sold and activated in the State unless:

1. An instructional manual or audio or audiovisual instructions are provided to the purchaser;

2. The manufacturer maintains a record of the original owner of the electronic control device; and

3. The manufacturer or seller has obtained a State and federal criminal history records check of the original owner to ensure compliance with subsection (b)(2) of this section.

A person may not possess or use an electronic control device unless the person:

1. Has attained the age of 18 years; and

2. Has never been convicted of a crime of violence or a violation of Section 5-602, Section 5-603, Section 5-604, Section 5-605, Section 5-606, Section 5-613, or Section 5-614 of this article.

Massachusetts Stun Gun & Taser Laws / Statutes:

Part I, Title 20 XX, Chapter 140 Section 131J

The US Supreme Court struck down the Massachusetts Ban on Stun Guns. They can be owned and kept in your home but they may not be legal to carry outside the home.

Note: (4/17/18) The Massachusetts Supreme Court has put out their “Ruling” (After the US Supreme Ct forced them with above ruling) that the Stun Gun Ban is unconstitutional. Massachusetts can just ban them as they fall under the 2nd Amendment. Massachusetts will most likely pass a law or Admin Rule to make possession outside the home/business require a license to carry and most likely other restrictions.

Michigan Stun Gun & Taser Laws / Statutes:

Section 750.224a Portable Device or Weapon Directing Electrical Current, Impulse, Wave, or Beam; Sale or Possession Prohibited; Exceptions; Use of Electro-Muscular Disruption Technology; Violation; Penalty; Definitions.

Sec. 224a. (Edited for Space Considerations)

(1) Except as otherwise provided in this section, a person shall not sell, offer for sale, or possess in this state a portable device or weapon from which an electrical current, impulse, wave, or beam may be directed, which current, impulse, wave, or beam is designed to incapacitate temporarily, injure, or kill.

(2) This section does not prohibit any of the following:

(b) The possession and reasonable use of a device that uses electro-muscular disruption technology by an individual who holds a valid license to carry a concealed pistol under section 5b of 1927 PA 372, MCL 28.425, and who has been trained under subsection (5) in the use, effects, and risks of the device.

(5) An authorized dealer or other person who sells a device that uses electro-muscular disruption technology to an individual described in subsection (2)(b) shall verify the individual’s identity and verify that the individual holds a valid concealed pistol license issued under section 5b of 1927 PA 372, MCL 28.425b, and shall provide to the individual purchasing the device, at the time of the sale, training on the use, effects, and risks of the device. A person who violates this subsection is guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for not more than 30 days or a fine of not more than $500.00, or both.

(6) An individual described in subsection (2) shall not use a device that uses electro-muscular disruption technology against another person except under circumstances that would justify the individual’s lawful use of physical force. An individual who violates this subdivision is guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for not more than 2 years or a fine of not more than $2,000.00, or both.

(7) As used in this section:

(a)“A device that uses electro-muscular disruption technology” means a device to which both of the following apply:

(i) The device is capable of creating an electro-muscular disruption and is used or intended to be used as a defensive device capable of temporarily incapacitating or immobilizing a person by the direction or emission of conducted energy.

(ii) The device contains an identification and tracking system that, when the device is initially used, dispenses coded material traceable to the purchaser through records kept by the manufacturer, and the manufacturer of the device has a policy of providing that identification and tracking information to a police agency upon written request by that agency. However, this subdivision does not apply to a launch-able device that is used only by law enforcement agencies.

Note: The seller will give you the training. From the way I understand the law the seller is responsible for giving the training so resale by a non dealer may not be legal.

Minnesota Stun Gun & Taser Laws / Statutes:

Section 624.731 Electronic Incapacitation Devices

Subdivision 1. Definitions

Electronic Incapacitation Devices” means a portable device which is designed or intended by the manufacturer to be used, offensively or defensively, to temporarily immobilize or incapacitate persons by means of electric pulse or current, including devices operating by means of carbon dioxide propellant. “Electronic incapacitation device” does not include cattle prods, electric fences, or other electric devices when used in agricultural, animal husbandry, or food production activities.

Subdivision 2. Authorized Possession; Use.

A person may possess and use an electronic incapacitation device in the exercise of reasonable force in defense of the person or the person’s property only if the electronic incapacitation device is labeled with or accompanied by clearly written instructions as to its use and the dangers involved in its use.

Subdivision 3. Prohibited possession; use.

No person under the age of 16 may possess or use an authorized tear gas compound except by written permission of a parent or guardian, and no person under the age of 18 may possess or use an electronic incapacitation device.

Mississippi Stun Gun & Taser Laws / Statutes:

§ 45-9-101 Must be licensed to carry a stun gun.

45.9.101 License To Carry Stun Gun, Concealed Pistol Or Revolver

(13) No license issued pursuant to this section shall authorize any person to carry a stun gun, concealed pistol or revolver into

* any place of nuisance as defined in Section 95-3-1, Mississippi Code of 1972;

* any police, sheriff or highway patrol station; any detention facility, prison or jail;

* any courthouse; any courtroom, except that nothing in this section shall preclude a judge from carrying a concealed weapon or determining who will carry a concealed weapon in his courtroom;

* any polling place; any meeting place of the governing body of any governmental entity;

* any meeting of the Legislature or a committee thereof;

* any school, college or professional athletic event not related to firearms;

* any portion of an establishment, licensed to dispense alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises, that is primarily devoted to dispensing alcoholic beverages; any portion of an establishment in which beer or light wine is consumed on the premises, that is primarily devoted to such purpose;

* any elementary or secondary school facility; any junior college, community college, college or university facility unless for the purpose of participating in any authorized firearms-related activity;

* inside the passenger terminal of any airport, except that no person shall be prohibited from carrying any legal firearm into the terminal if the firearm is encased for shipment, for purposes of checking such firearm as baggage to be lawfully transported on any aircraft;

* any church or other place of worship; or any place where the carrying of firearms is prohibited by federal law.

* In addition to the places enumerated in this subsection, the carrying of a stun gun, concealed pistol or revolver may be disallowed in any place in the discretion of the person or entity exercising control over the physical location of such place by the placing of a written notice clearly readable at a distance of not less than ten (10) feet that the “carrying of a pistol or revolver is prohibited.

* ” No license issued pursuant to this section shall authorize the participants in a parade or demonstration for which a permit is required to carry a stun gun, concealed pistol or revolver.

Any school, college or professional athletic event not related to firearms. – (This provision authorizes an enhanced permit holder to carry a stun gun, concealed pistol or revolver into non-firearm related events even if signage is posted pursuant toSection 45-9-101(13). However, if signage were posted relating to a firearm related school, college or professional event, enhanced permit holders would not be authorized to carry their weapons.)

(13)… In addition to the places enumerated in this subsection, the carrying of a stun gun, concealed pistol or revolver may be disallowed in any place in the discretion of the person or entity exercising control over the physical location of such place by the placing of a written notice clearly readable at a distance of not less than ten (10) feet that the “carrying of a pistol or revolver is prohibited.”

(19) Any person holding a valid unrevoked and unexpired license to carry stun guns, concealed pistols or revolvers issued in another state shall have such license recognized by this state to carry stun guns, concealed pistols or revolvers. The Department of Public Safety is authorized to enter into a reciprocal agreement with another state if that state requires a written agreement in order to recognize licenses to carry stun guns, concealed pistols or revolvers issued by this state.

Before we go into any voltage numbers or quality aspects of this taser/stun gun unit, we need to explain some exact aspects of this product to help you better understand the differences between this product and other self defense products. Firstly, remember this is a TASER, which means upon being fired, it will shoot electrically charged projectiles towards the target. Stun guns do not shoot projectiles, you must make contact with the target in order to stun them. This unit has the features of both a stun gun and a taser. Below are a list of pros and cons, please make sure to read this entire review in its entirety to better understand this product in particular. This is a very unique and different product compared to other stun guns and tasers for sale on the market, you need to understand every aspect prior to purchasing as its not as simple as just purchasing this unit and then using it upon delivery.

Pros:

- Shoots electrically charged projectiles up to 15 ft (this is by far the single MOST important feature of this stun gun)

- Laser sight for aiming accuracy

- Small & lightweight compared to other tasers

- TASER© will replace your unit if you end up leaving the taser at the scene of the incident

Cons:

- This unit will not work until it is activated. Activation requires a background check from TASER©. Requirements listed below.

- Battery is non-rechargeable. Even though they say the unit can last 50 firings with one battery, a replacement battery costs $39.99. What we don’t understand is how this is acceptable when EVERY other stun gun/taser on the market has a charger/rechargeable battery. Even though the battery is non-rechargeable if it ever goes low on power, the indicator light will change from green to yellow. This indicator will give you a good idea that its getting time to replace your battery.

- Cartridges, cartridges and more cartridges….they are NOT cheap. If you ever decide that you want to fire the taser, it needs to have an unused cartridge loaded and ready. Cartridges cost anywhere from $35-$60 each depending on the quantity you buy. Once a cartridge has been fired, that’s it, you’re gonna need to spend $35+ to buy another one.

- Having a taser instead of a stun gun seems always great on paper….but is it really? No, there are many situations where a stun gun will outperform a taser. For example, lets say you fire the taser at the attacker and you miss, he’s gonna come right after you and then all that you’re left with is the stun gun feature, which was built as a BACKUP self defense option. In that scenario I would feel much safer using a higher powered stun gun instead of the low output of the stun gun on this unit.

- Confidentiality – This is what killed it for us, which is mainly the sole reason of why I prefer an un-registered self defense product. Not only do you have to “apply” to register the taser unit, but there are several other drawbacks as well. If you decide to fire your TASER© C2 at the assailant not only does the unit shoot out the electrically charged probes, but it also shoots a few dozen sticky confetti pieces at the target. These little confetti pieces have your specific taser serial number on them. What this means is that, they could easily track down who shot the taser unit since it must be registered in order to be activated. This can be a positive thing so that we don’t have just anyone out there shooting tasers at people. However, if i’m shooting a taser at an attacker, it probably means that i’m not at home and I just need quick reliable self defense. I’m not looking to get involved with the police, file police reports and exchange my personal information essentially with the assailant. Remember if you ever file a police report over any type of activity, you are essentially giving your information to the assailant and he’s giving his personal information to you as well. The scenario of taking my wife to dinner at the beginning of the night and then end the night by filing a police report, that’s not the kind of night I had originally planned. TASER© will guarantee a FREE replacement of your unit, IF there is a police report filed obviously.

- Reloadable cartridges – The Taser C2 cartridges are reloadable….so let’s say you just fired the taser at the assailant, the only feature that you are left with for the next 30 seconds is the built in stun gun. If you want to reload another cartridge, you will have to wait at least 30 seconds. We are unsure of the reasoning for this, but this is not very practical in our opinion. When in the heat of the moment, there’s quite a bit that can go wrong in 30 seconds. We actually find this to be a huge drawback to the taser C2.

Pros/Cons Conclusion

After reading the pros and cons it may seem that the cons outweigh the positive aspects of the Taser C2 unit. However, there are several features of the C2 that may not appeal to us, but will work just fine for others. Remember the reviews that we do are to help better inform you prior to making a purchase on a self defense product. When it comes to the most affordable best taser on the market, the Taser C2 gets the job done and does it well.

Taser C2 Product Features and Packages

The Taser C2 comes in several different package types. As you can see the review here is for the Taser C2 Gold Kit. We have been able to locate 3 different package types:

- Platinum (we cannot find the taser c2 platinum kit for sale through the TASER© website, but other retailers have this kit)

If you pay attention closely to the differences from the basic to the gold package is pretty substantial and definitely worth the price. The difference between the gold and platinum taser c2 packages is 2 additional live cartridges on the platinum version, thats it.
Why did we rate the taser c2 gold kit higher than the basic package?

We want to explain this in detail so that no one becomes confused since the taser c2 main unit is technically 100% identical in all package types. Since the only differences rely only on the accessories, why would we rate the different package types differently? The reason for this is specifically for the training cartridge and additional live cartridge. The practice target is not a necessity and neither is the holster. The holster might be necessity for some people, but it wasn’t for us. The reason that the training cartridge is important is because after activation, you should get used to how your taser works and at least take one practice shot so that you know what to expect if you ever need to fire it in a real life situation. Even though the gold & platinum taser c2 kits come in “cool” different colors, this is not a necessity once again, self defense is not about style, it is about ultimately about safety. We also feel that having just one cartridge is not very practical, which is another reason why we prefer the taser c2 gold kit instead of the basic package. Remember at the end of the day, the choice is yours. We are are here to review these products and show the differences in each model, but YOU are going to be the one using the product. You want to purchase what makes you feel safe or comfortable.

We have covered most of all the important details and key aspects of the Taser C2 so now we’ll move on to the next part of the review which are all the stats and test results.

Maximum Voltage Test -

Maximum Average Voltage (Button Depressed for 3 seconds, battery is FULLY Charged) – 51,361 Volts

Reliability -

As for the reliability of the Taser C2, we give it a perfect 5/5 stars. This is mainly due to LED being able to change from Green to Yellow if the battery power goes low. We feel this is a HUGE feature on the stun gun, even though it seems simple, there aren’t many other tasers or stun guns on the market that will let you know if your battery is low or not. With stun guns or tasers, the battery life is usually the largest indicator of reliability.

Battery Life -

While TASER© gives you a high-end Lithium-Ion battery with their products, it is NOT rechargeable on the C2. TASER© claims that the battery life is good for 50 shots, however, who is realistically going to fire 50 shots with their C2? I’m not sure about you, but we use our flashlight on our stun guns/tasers quite a bit. If you use your flashlight too much on your C2, you might just end up having to buy another battery from TASER© for $40.

Warranty -

The standard Taser C2 warranty length is 1 year. However, keep in mind that their warranty paperwok is HUGE.

Voltage Stabilization Test -

While doing our voltage stabilization test for tasers, we don’t have a 100% dead on voltage number as it’s very difficult to test the probes and the power only runs through these shock probes for usually 30 seconds or less. This is why we have a voltage range listed for this particular test.

Average Voltage Stabilization Test (Button Depressed for 10 seconds, battery on FULL charge) – 32,300 – 47,102 Volts

Case/Holster -

Remember as per the included accessories listed above, only the Gold & Platinum C2 kits come with holsters. The holster that comes included with the Gold/Platinum kit is very high-quality.

Full Charge Time -

The Taser C2 does not come with a charger or rechargeable battery pack. While almost all other stun guns and tasers that we have reviewed on our site have a charger, the C2 does not.

Even though the Taser C2 does not have a rechargeable battery, this taser has other great features that some other stun guns/tasers that we’ve reviewed do not. The first really cool feature is the LED light, this is the same light that changes from red to green during product activation. This light will illuminate yellow if the battery starts getting low. This indicator is helpful as most other stun guns and tasers do not come with a battery indicator light.

The next great feature is the laser sight that this taser has. This allows you to aim your shot at the assailant.

Flashlight Brightness -

The flashlight on the Taser C2 is definitely not its strong point. We would put the flashlight brightness at “decent” at best. We feel a product that costs $400 should have a much brighter flashlight. However, it seems that the reason for the lack of flashlight brightness is due to the non-rechargeable battery. We know they could produce a product with a much brighter flashlight, but why, why and why did they decide to go with a non-rechargeable battery?

Overall Quality -

The quality on the Taser C2 is very high end. We would put the quality of this unit on par with military grade self-defense products.

Overall Value -

We would give the overall value of this taser a 6/10. It’s $400 and the cartridges are extremely expensive. When you buy a Taser C2, it doesn’t feel like “hey friends, look at this amazing deal I just got!”. It feels more like, well I bought a Taser and now I feel more safe. The price we feel should be $199-$249 with cheaper cartridges. The quality of this stun gun definitely represents a $400 product and beyond, but it just doesn’t feel like you’re getting a good deal on your purchase.

Conclusion -

The overall conclusion is a hard one for us, because there are aspects of this taser that are truly revolutionary and there are aspects that are horrible. If you want an “entry-level” taser, we recommend this product to anyone looking to buy a taser or a stun gun. If you want the absolute best taser, we say go with the Phazzer Enforcer, but be prepared to spend $500-$600 plus the costs of any accessories.

As for quality, ease of use and the best overall entry level taser at the lowest cost, the Taser C2 is a great choice. We have a C2 registered by us, but we never bring it with us. The reason we rated this higher than the Phazzer Enforcer is only due to the price. We feel that the Taser C2 is definitely the best bang for the buck, but if you read this article in its entirety, you now are well aware of the drawbacks of an entry level product and a product sold by TASER© which must be registered prior to activation.

This review for the Taser C2 basic kit is not as long as our normal reviews since we did the FULL review on the Taser C2 gold kit. We recommend that even if you have your mind set on purchasing a Taser C2 basic kit, that you read our full review on the gold kit as it contains tons of information on the Taser C2 product in general.
